LETTERING :: Apple Leaf Placecards

Happy Fall everyone!

Today I am sharing a fun idea that is a little different for your fall parties, tables and even Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving dinners. During the fall season, most of us only think about decorating with pumpkins since we have Halloween and Thanksgiving mixed into this season BUT what about taking a look at another option: apples!

Personally I love everything about apples . . . they are my fave color, the perfect fruit, delicious to eat plus they make for a great decor piece but I tend to forget about possibly decorating with them myself but NOT this year! I gathered some gorgeous red apples and decided to do a fun tablescape and project using them for you guys today. The great thing about using apples is they are perfect for ANY time during the fall season - at the beginning of the season and all the way up to Thanksgiving.

I wanted to add a fun element to this table idea so I hand lettered some leaves to go along with the apples. I inked the words in the shape of the leaves simply by drawing them out and then inking them next. You can do your own as well or if you'd rather, grab these exact ones in my shop as it is an instant download!

By keeping them black and white, it gives you options for using them. Perhaps you'd like to keep things simple and use them in the black and white color scheme and have all of the other elements on your table be the focus of color - then that would work out great! Plus you have so many different options on how to use them or place them on your place settings.

OR maybe you love coloring. Maybe you need a kid or two to have something to do while you are getting your fall dinners ready or an activity to keep them busy on Thanksgiving day. Whatever the reason, you have the option to color them as well however you see fit.

So HOW did I make these apple leaves you ask? Simple. let me show you . . .

Step 1: Gather all of the supplies. You will need: a printout of this file of the hand lettered apple leaves, a pair of scissors, something to color the leaves, some scrap pieces of felt and a great adhesive.

Step 2: Have some fun coloring these leaves in! Here I used my Tombow Irojiten colored pencils as they blend beautifully and have vibrant color!

Step 3: Cut out your leaves and felt pieces and match them up (for the backs of your leaves).

Step 4: Use a good adhesive - I used this Tombow mono permanent adhesive to hold my leaves in place to the felt - then attach them to the stems of your apples. All done! ;)

INSIDER TIP TIME:  I will mention that if you decide to do this, make sure to purchase apples that have an actual STEM on them to attach the leaves so you don't have to make a second trip back to the grocery store. And no you may NOT ask me how I know that! lol

I know this isn't a 'typical' placecard idea where you have everyone's names lettered all pretty at each place setting but I like to offer up different options. This would be especially helpful as a generic idea for when you are going to have a large crowd and you maybe just aren't sure how many are coming. ;)
