HOME :: Living Room Gallery Wall

     

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing with all of you my living room gallery wall! I love the way it turned out and I'm excited to show it to you! Gallery walls seem to be sticking around and NOT going anywhere anytime soon and that is GOOD news for the rest of us who love doing them. I have designed a couple already in my house but only ONE gallery wall you have seen . . . thusfar, but I believe you can have one in every room if done right. The thing about gallery walls too, is there aren't really any rules to follow except for a few tips and that is it. You really can't go wrong or mess it up at all. If you have never done one before and would like some pointers, then refer to this post on my tips for creating a gallery wall.

I personally start, as with any project, with a big piece or a statement piece to put on the wall. For me I made this huge piece of canvas art which is simply, some amazing IKEA fabric I picked up in this black and white print and wrapped a canvas with it! That is it! My living room is decked out in black and white, mostly with green accents so when I saw that fabric, I knew I needed to use it in a BIG way in this room. I also wanted to add shelves this time and make one really long shelf above the couch (that needs replaced- no judging- lol). So I grabbed two white IKEA shelves and butted them together to get this look. I used the wall shelves that you can sit frames on, with a ledge so I can interchange my art out for the holidays throughout the year and not have tons of holes in the wall. It has worked perfect and I love changing it up every now and again! Once I figured out where I wanted my big pieces, I pretty much laid it out on the floor until I liked the layout and then up it went.
 

With this gallery wall I really kept it simple as the other gallery wall is near this one and I didn't want them to compete with each other. This one has some of my favorite sayings displayed: pray big, believe you can and of course I had to hand letter something: Choose Happy!

One of my favorite pieces I was so happy to score for this project, was the large ampersand as I kinda have a thing for them around the house but this one is the biggest, so far. I guess I love the "&" sign as I feel it gives me hope. As in, there is always something else coming when you hear and . . . . =)

All of my items that I used for this project I either purchased at IKEA, Pier 1 Imports or Hobby Lobby. Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for checking it out!

CRAFT :: Father's Day Thumbprint Art

Today I am going to share with you a real quick, Father's Day gift idea that the kiddos can do all by themselves! Even if you are a last minute kinda gift-giver, you still have time! ;) I promise this project is easy, inexpensive and your kid can do this one in about 15 minutes!

1. You just need to grab a few supplies: small canvas (or art paper would work),  2 tubes of paint, a paint brush, and a pencil. Plus one kid. ;) 

2. Start by lightly drawing a heart shape on the canvas so your child has a guide as to where they should put their thumbprints. 

3. Afterwards squirt a little paint on a tray or plate so they can start "thumbing" their heart shape.

4. Simply have your kid dip their thumb into the paint, push down their 'print' on a scrap piece of paper to remove excess paint and then go ahead and place a thumbprint onto the canvas. They should repeat this process until the have formed a heart shape with the thumbprints.

5. The next step is to grab the other paint color they chose and paint brush, to use it to paint the edges of the canvas to give their art a "framed look".

6. Finally, have them write a saying, message or whatever they would like on their art masterpiece! My daughter & I chose to use "my heart belongs to my daddy" as her saying on her thumbprint art.

DIY CRAFT :: Spring Bloom Canvas Art

   

DIY Spring Bloom Canvas Art

Spring is in the air…plants will be waking up to the spring warmth from the sun.  One of my favorite events of spring is to watch the infant buds on our trees start to open up and say hello to the new season. 

That image is what has inspired my DIY Spring Bloom Canvas Art today.

My daughter, Molly,  loves to craft with me.  I picked something easy for her to help with. 

Supplies needed:    Canvas, paint brush, paint, hot glue gun and colored tissue paper. 

First I had Molly paint the canvas. We picked this bright metallic aquamarine color.  It gave the canvas a beautiful glow to it. 

Then after letting that dry, she painted the brown tree branch coming from the side of the canvas. 

After that dried completely, we crumpled small pieces of colored tissue paper and I glued them on to the branch randomly representing the “blooms”. 

We made sure it completely dry and all our “blooms” were stuck good and then we hung up our finished masterpiece on our closet door. It’s the first thing you see when you come up the stairs.  

I love the brightness to it and the fact that we made it together.

CRAFT :: DIY Heart Canvas Art

It's time to get your craft on! I am loving how my latest craft turned out so I am sharing it with you today & showing you just how easy this one is to make for yourself or someone else. It's a simple craft DIY using just a few supplies & a couple hours and then you will have your own DIY heart canvas art!

I made this one for my daughter as I am still currently working on my her bedroom re-do (still) and wanted to make her some custom artwork from her mama, that was simple enough for anyone to make as well. 

You just need to grab a few supplies: canvas, scatters, paint, paintbrush, hot glue gun/glue, and a pencil. I picked up this canvas at Hobby Lobby in a 2-pack for $3.99 & it's 8x10 in size. I also grabbed the scatters (pink and white balls) in the Valentines section at Hobby Lobby at 40% off so this whole project cost me a whopping $6 I think. As far as paint goes, use whatever you have on hand. I chose this Valspar color sample paint from Lowe's (from my paint stash) as I am addicted to these sample sizes & pick a 'few' up every time I am there to use for projects of all kinds.

First you have to make two decisions: what will your shape be & what do you want it to say? For this example, I chose a heart shape and to paint "I" and a U" at the top/bottom for my daughter's art. The scatters will be glued on using the glue gun and the letters will be painted on.

Next, I hand sketched the "I" going along the top and the "u" at the bottom with my pencil. (sorry for the dark photo but purposely made it dark so you could see it)
No worries about your lines being straight or perfect as it's ART . . .ART is always perfectly imperfect! ;)

I would recommend that you "lay out" your shape (heart) first before gluing them down or even painting so you can get a sense at how they will all fit together and how much room you have to paint your letters. Once you get it how you think you'd like it to look, take them off the canvas & move to the side & begin painting!

Like I said earlier, just freehand paint it, no one is judging how great it looks. =) Then after I painted the two letters, I went around the whole edge of the canvas and painted with the same color so my letters looked like they ran off the sides.

  

Once your paint dries, its time for the final step: gluing on the scatters. For this heart I did the outline first & then filled in until I got this . . . 

The best part is my daughter LOVED it and she always will have something in her room hanging that says "I love u" from her mama! =)
