SUMMER PINWHEEL WREATH

Hi everyone!  It’s Wendy here from Scrappy Bags.  Are you looking for a fun summer wreath to welcome your guests?  I’ve got just the idea for you!  This is quick and easy and will take you no time at all.

You will need to gather:  a grapevine wreath, white spray paint, heavy two-sided cute scrapbook paper, cute buttons, a paper trimmer, scissors and a hot glue gun.

First, I took the grapevine wreath to the garage and spray painted it white.  Nice and easy!

Next, you want to take your scrapbook paper and cut a bunch of squares.  I made my squares 5x5 inches in size.  You can make them any size you like.  You will need whatever number of pinwheels that you want to put on your wreath.  I needed seven pinwheels for a 24” wreath.

The next step is to fold your squares in half and crease ever so slightly in the middle.  Fold two times ways so that you can create a “center mark” on your square.  Once you have your center, then cut a straight line from each of the four corners to approximately ¼ inch from the center point.  DO NOT cut the whole way to the point.

  

It’s time to use the glue gun, so get it warmed up!  Put a small dab of hot glue in the center point of the pinwheel, then fold the first corner over to the center and continue with each corner until you have all four corners adhered in the middle.  You may need to add a little more glue as you go along.  Keep going until you have all of your pinwheels made.

I thought the pinwheels needed a little something for the center to perk them up, so I added some cute buttons with hot glue.

I let my pinwheels set for about 30 minutes.  Once they were set and dry, I added some hot glue to the back of the pinwheel and then attached them to the grapevine wreath.  That’s it!  You’re done – mine was hanging on my front door an hour later!

CRAFT :: Fall Flower Topiary

Today I am sharing a fun project I created for my mantle when I decorated it for fall, this year. Every couple of years, I feel like adding a new piece or two to my fall mantle as I like to switch things up every now and then. I also wanted to get 'my craft on' so I decided to make this craft, a Fall Flower Topiary after looking though my craft stash and throwing these supplies together.
 

For the supplies, I used a styrofoam topiary from FloraCraft, a couple different paint colors, paint brushes, my glue gun and some bunches of flowers I was no longer using.

  
Step 1:
I painted the pole of the topiary brown to resemble a tree branch and then the base and the spheres I painted a burgundy color for fall, so it would resemble potted flowers. Obviously feel free to use whatever colors fit into your color scheme and have some fun with it.

Step 2:
Pop the flower heads off all of the bunches of flowers you have collected and put them in piles according to color.

Step 3:
Start gluing the flower heads onto the sphere of the topiary with your glue gun. Make sure to alternate between the different flower heads to get a nice pattern going. Keep gluing until both spheres are nice and full.

Step 4:
Add a simple bow to the base of the topiary to give it that little bit of something extra. ;)

The last step is finding the perfect spot to enjoy your new Fall Topiary! I chose to put mine on my mantle to add to the array of pumpkins I have going on. I think it's the perfect item to soften up the items up there . . .what do you think?

CRAFT :: Summer Yarn Wreath

Hey there everyone!

I have a thing with making wreaths (apparently) and wanted to share with you the latest one I made for our front door. I needed to make a new wreath to match my new "Patio Makeover" and this yarn I purchased awhile back, reminded my of summertime in a pool when I saw it. So I decided it matched close enough with the new color scheme I had going on outside with the patio (navy, turquoise blues and white), so a wreath was in the makin! ;)

I have shared with you recently how to make this type of yarn wreath when I created one for my daughters Rainbow Loom party, so if you need better instructions, make sure to check this post out to see more details.

You just need to grab a few supplies: a letterboard wreath shape, some yarn, fabric glue or hot glue gun, ribbon, embellishments and scissors.




The first step is to start by gluing the yarn at your starting point. I would glue it down on the back and start wrapping around the wreath form.

 

Just keep wrapping and wrapping and wrapping . . . all while wrapping the yarn tight together, side-by-side . . . then glue your last strand of yarn down to secure. Cut a piece of ribbon to hang up your wreath & attach.

 

Next step is to add the embellishments that you chose to adhere to the wreath, I decided to make a couple flower embellishments to add to mine & a tiny feather but feel free to use what you want.

 
I love making this wreath as it is soooooo easy & quick so you can change out your door wreaths ALL the time. If you want. ;)

CRAFT :: Easy Picnic Utensils Holder with P&Geveryday

Summertime is one of my favorite times of year but it's not because of the great weather being the reason. The reason I love it is simple. My daughter is home all summer and we can plan fun things to do that you can only have fun doing during summer break. You know those 'making memories' kind of things. 

We plan a summer bucket list every year and she fills it up the first week of break and we look forward to finding creative ways to tackle the things on her bucket list. One of the things she has on her list is to have a family picnic that includes taking our dog with us. This is our dog's first summer with us so yes, he goes too. This is Chili. He says hello! ;)

I have been looking for fun creative ideas for summer, for the last month, on various sites when I stumbled upon a site new to me: P&Geveryday. I found all sorts of articles that shared ideas on various topics I was looking for. Since I am specifically planning a picnic with the family + dog soon, I was super excited when I came across this adorable and easy craft idea for a picnic: Easy Picnic Utensil Holders. Now just how cute are these?

So cute in fact, that I decided to gather the materials right away, after reading this article because I wanted to see just how easy they would be to make. So with supplies in hand and washi tape design chosen, I was ready to get my craft on!

They were so easy to make, that I have already made mine for when we have our picnic in the upcoming week. One less thing to do for the picnic outing thanks to P&Geveryday. ;) Didn't they turn out adorable? I just followed the instructions from the article on their site and done! I love how resourceful their ideas can be to make my life easier.
