RECIPE :: S'mores Pizza

how to make s'mores pizza, smores pizza recipe, summer recipe

S'mores Pizza
Two words that belong together.
My husband's favorite food- pizza. My favorite dessert- s'mores. Could anything be better?

Trust me on this. You will love it. And you can make this in any dessert flavor you like. Strawberries, peaches, ice cream- it all works with this super easy and impressive dessert.

In our house, we love homemade pizza. It is our Friday night "fun food" and we make our dough from scratch and set up a "Make Your Own" pizza bar with lots of toppings. Everyone gets the pizza they love and it is a great way to use up vegetables, meat and cheese in the fridge.

So this week we decided to change it up a little and turn pizza into dessert! I still set up a "Make Your Own" toppings bar, but this time with fruit, chocolate and of course, marshmallows. The pizzas are on the small side so we didn't overload on sweets and everyone loved making their own dessert.

I made a S'mores Pizza, of course, and the results were so divine I just had to share with you.

Here is my dessert pizza crust- so easy to make! And some ideas for your Toppings Bar, but add whatever you like and let everyone have fun!

Dessert Pizza Crust
(makes enough for 4 personal dessert pizzas)

- In a large bowl, pour in 1 1/2 cups warm water. Add 1 teaspoon sugar and stir to dissolve.
- Add 2 Tablespoons instant yeast to the water and stir. Allow to sit until foamy, about 10 minutes.
- Once foamy, stir again and then add 3 cups all purpose flour and 1 cup whole wheat flour. Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon, 2 Tablespoons honey, and 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil.
- Mix to combine. Dough will be sticky.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes. Place in a large lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Keep in a warm place while oven preheats.

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- When oven is ready, divide dough into 4 balls. Roll out each ball of dough with a rolling pin on a
lightly floured surface until dough is 1/2" thick.
- Bake the pizza shells for approximately 20 minutes or until lightly brown on the edges and baked through. Remove from the oven and now you can top it and bake it to finish it.
- Now you are ready to top your pizza- for the S'mores Pizza version first use white, dark, or milk chocolate chips
(or all 3!) to make the "sauce" by sprinkling dough with chocolate.
Place in oven and bake until chocolate has melted. (Alternately, you can spread chocolate sauce on crust and add remaining ingredients and bake all at once).
Remove from oven and top with remaining ingredients such as marshmallows.
When baking the marshmallows, watch carefully as the marshmallows will melt and toast very quickly.

- The trick to topping your pizza is making your "sauce" first with either melted chocolate, baking it with chocolate chips on it, or spreading jam on the crust. Then add toppings and put marshmallows on it to be the "cheese" to glue everything together. Fresh fruit should be added after its baked (the fruit is so watery that it tends to just add water to the top and it isn't in the oven long enough to cook)

Dessert Pizza Toppings
- white, milk, or dark chocolate chips
- marshmallows
- fresh fruit such as sliced strawberries or peaches, whole raspberries or blackberries
jam
- chocolate bar pieces or candies such as smarties or m&ms
·        whipped cream (for topping after, but allow pizza to cool slightly before using or it will melt)
- nuts or granola clusters
- cookie pieces

Have fun making this easy and fun dessert- remember, you can always make your dough and prep your toppings in advance. And this makes an awesome DIY activity for a kids' party- trust me! Messy but oh so good!

Enjoy~ Kimberley
