HOME :: Front Door Makeover

front door makeover, Modern Masters paint, peaceful front door paint, blue front door

Today we are back outside and sharing a space that I have been working on little by little and am STILL working on, but thought I would take a minute and share a little update to show you what I have been doing. I have lived in my condo for 10 years now (and soooooo ready to move) but in the meantime I am updating as much as I can and one thing that has been on my list, has been to repaint my front door, as it had at least two different paint colors that I could see on it.  Just "eeeeeew"! For the longest time, the homeowners association where I live, said no one could paint a different color scheme than what was already there, so I did nothing.

Then miraculously last year they approved a few people to move forward in painting. Add to that, the fact that I met this company called Modern Masters at the SNAP conference I attended in April and they showed me this amazing product they make called Front Door Paint and well . . .  that's when I jumped on the chance to do mine as well. I contacted my homeowners association and they basically said keep it classy and do what you think looks best! Well OK then, let's roll! ;)

Since this porch area has been neglected, along with the patio that I started making over a few months ago, I decided to make a "to-do" list with this area as well to keep me on track in completing this makeover!

Here is my 'official' list to accomplish JUST with this space:

- power wash the porch
- remove mildew from porch
- paint the porch/steps
- paint the front door
- replace seals on door
- paint the screen door
- paint the door frame
- replace/re-paint all door hardware
- paint/ replace kick plate on screen door
- replace/repaint doorbell
- freshen up space with some new decor

**I'm about 1/2 way on my list to crossing them off . . . YAY!

So here we go, the reason you are here . . .my progress on Project: Front Door / Porch Makeover!

Step 1:

Prep work!
Take a few pics as you will want to see a good before and after picture, as it really is amazing. Grab your supplies to get started . . . I had my paint, a nice hand held brush, a small roller, some painters tape and that's it. Remove the hardware on your door or tape it off - whichever is easiest for you.

This would be what my front door looked like before I started on it. Just plain boring and that green and the brass handles . . . . ugghhhh, so glad it's about to be gone! ;)

As you can see, this screen door needs some loving bad and will get some soon. And I think it's amazing what you can see when you take photos! I mean really, all of the imperfections on this main door, they are so obvious but hoping the paint will make it all better. =)

Step 2:
Painting!

Say goodbye to your old paint color as it's about to become a thing of the past! Oh and can you believe this mustard yellow color paint here on the edge of this door? Enough, time to get my paint on . . .ba-bye!

The front door paint really does go on perfectly and it's so easy! I think painting the whole front door took me about an hour and it was dry within a couple hours . . . and makes such a HUGE difference! I wish I had another door to paint!

The color I picked is called Peaceful but they have 24 different amazing colors to choose from. I chose it since when I made over the patio outside this summer, I chose a navy and teal color combo and when I saw THIS color . . .  I just knew it would be the perfect choice to match! Two coats of this paint and I was done. The coverage was amazing and the color is so vibrant! LOVE it!!!!

Step 3:
Add a wreath! Every door NEEDS a wreath and boy does this new color make this wreath just POP . . . it looks so good! Those of you that are regular followers of mine, gotta know that I am super stoked about making new wreaths for this front door now. Oh my, can you even imagine all the cool ones I can make for it now? Can.not.wait.

Step 4:
Decorating the porch!

Right now there is an abundance of all things FALL! Pumpkins, mums, Halloween decor . . . pick something that you like and make it inviting for people coming over. Play around with different ideas. On some of these I used pumpkins and flowers and the others just all pumpkins. I choose to go with all pumpkins in the end, as they will last all of the way until Thanksgiving or until the Christmas decorating starts! ;) You will also notice that I have the screen door propped open on most of my photos so you can see the newly painted door in all of it's glory!

But here it is and it's definitely NOT finished but it's a HUGE improvement and we're off to a pretty good start. Next up will be painting the door frame and that screen door so you can see what it looks like closed, next time. ;)

And how much do we LOVE a good before/after shot . . .
How much better does my front door look with it's new spiffy coat of front door paint? Looking good, definitely looking good. I can not wait until the whole area is done and I promise to come back and share an update so you all can see how it turns out. Painting the screen door will be a little challenging but it will look a thousand times better!

I mean it already does . . .

I really hope this post helped motivate you to get out there and paint your front door or give your front porch a much needed makeover. You will be surprised at just how easy and quick it can be! Now is the perfect time to do it, as there are plenty of fun ideas you can use during the fall season to spruce up your porch and make it feel inviting!

I would LOVE to hear if you have ever painted an outdoor space recently or are planning one? What color scheme are you planning to use?
