CRAFT :: Emoji Coasters [IKEA Hack]

how to make emoji coasters, emoji party, emoji craft idea, painting emojis

Hey there everyone!
Guess what? I am back with my last EMOJI craft from that epic EMOJI party we had for my daughter's 13th birthday! As you know, I have shared all of the fun from the party including all the details, the party pack collection, decor ideas as well as separate posts about the EMOJI PILLOWS the girls made plus the EMOJI OREO POPS and the POO EMOJI BROWNIE BITES, I made, so make sure to check those out if you somehow missed them. ;)
It was such a great party theme and one that you could do so many creative things with that it was hard to narrow down which to try and craft. In the end, I think I ended up cutting out about three other ideas I wanted to do for her party but you know how it goes . . .so many ideas, not enough hours in the day right? ;)

Anyway, as you know I have a massive love affair with IKEA and am constantly there so when we saw these coasters, well . . . an idea was born! We love how they turned out and this could totally be a craft idea you could have the kids do during an emoji party if you wanted. We painted them ahead of time though and had it as part of their favor bags to take home.

The great thing about making these coasters is you can choose which of your favorite emoji faces to paint . . . the possibilities are endless!

So here they are, come see just how easy they are to make:
EMOJI COASTERS!

1. gather all of your supplies . . . you will need:
the two pack of IKEA coasters, a couple paint brushes and the colors of paint that you will be using - depending on which emoji faces you are painting.

2. for the emoji faces we chose, we first painted the inside and edges of the coaster with our yellow paint. Let it dry. Side note: they dried super fast!

3. we painted all of the black parts of the face next. Let dry.

4. the white details we painted on next and allowed to dry. Some of the designs, this was it and others we did a final step of color.

5. if you have chosen any of the emoji faces with some color, like this laughing face emoji, then you would paint the blue tears last.
I also painted the heart eyes emoji for the party and the red hearts were painted last too.

They are so simple but turn out so cute! All of the girls loved them and were using them all night at the party.

This is another perfect DIY craft for an emoji party or an emoji sleepover. This particular craft would be great for the younger kids to do as well- they will love making these.

What emoji face would YOU paint on a coaster, given the chance? Please let me know below . . .

HOME :: Christmas Gallery Wall

decorating for christmas, christmas pillows, gallery wall, living room

Today I am sharing a super fun project for the holidays that I just finished! As many of you, I started decorating for Christmas a few weeks ago since my first holiday party is this week and gotta be ready! One of the items on my list to have my home "holiday-ready" was to create a simple but fun Christmas gallery wall in my living room! I am one of those people that go ALL OUT with decorating every room and I love BRIGHT colors in my decor! Plus Christmas just happens to be my favorite holiday so I was super excited to get this going!

One of the things I wanted to do for this project though, was to create my own graphic painting for the gallery wall. I have been painting for years and love any chance I can incorporate it into a project that I am working on. For this painting I knew I wanted it to cover a large area - I LOVE doing BIG paintings. For this, I decided on using 2 canvases and just painting them as one & then I could hang them separated or keep them together for one huge piece - I was leaving my options open. ;)

To create your own graphic Christmas painting, you will need: 1-2 canvases, some paint in your choice of colors scheme, some paint daubers, a paintbrush with a pointed tip and a couple stencils from Royal Design Studio! I always have the best luck finding what I need from them, so I used these two stencils for this project: Herringbone Pattern Christmas Stencil for the majority of the painting and then Fly Away With Me Christmas Stencil for the middle of my design. They worked out so well!

The steps are few but can take a little while if you are creating a big canvas art so have some patience.

Step 1:  Follow the directions for using the stencils and line up accordingly to use on your canvas. You will need to decide what kind of design and layout you want ahead of time so try maybe doing a quick sketch of how you would like it to look so you know what you are doing before you start painting.

Step 2: Dispense some paint on a paper plate or a palette for the paint. Using a paint dauber, lightly cover the dauber with the paint and then start dabbing the stencil you had lined up. Continue doing this until all of the stencil has been filled in with paint.

Step 3: After you have 'dabbed' or painted all of the stencil on your canvas, you will need to move the stencil to continue the pattern. Allow the paint to dry first and then move and line up the stencil to finish your pattern if need be.

Step 4: You are now ready to use the dove stencil. I switched colors for this and added him to the left of the canvases, leaving room to hand letter my word 'peace' behind him.

Step 5: For the last touch, the hand lettered word, I would suggest lightly sketching it out on your canvas if you are not comfortable doing it freehand. Grab your pointed paintbrush and "write" away your word with a different color paint. Remember it does NOT have to be perfect . . .it's your writing! ;)

I decided to put on my shelves above my couch instead of hanging them as I thought it looked more balanced this way. Plus I can change them out with something else if I need to.

So what do you guys think? I am loving this Christmas Gallery Wall. Do you have one that you do in your home? Would love to see it!

Which stencil designs do you like from their amazing selection? I would love to know, so comment below as I am wanting to do more projects with these as well and would love to hear what you like. Thanks for reading. xoxo

I received compensation from Royal Design Studio in the form of product / payment for this project. All opinions are strictly my own and I would never talk about or share anything on here that I wouldn't use & trust myself.

CRAFT :: Hand Lettered Thanksgiving Pumpkins

blue pumpkins, give thanks, love, celebrate, hand lettering, paint

Today I am sharing this super easy and quick craft to do and it's also something you could do with your kids if you were feeling extra brave. ;) Just grab those old pumpkins that you are probably getting ready to throw out anyway - let's recycle them. Grab some DecoArt patio paint and a paint brush. Why do I use patio paint? I use this paint as I love how fast it drys which makes it super durable so I can work with it quickly and move on!

As you can see I have already painted these pumpkins as I was using them for other things before now, so go ahead and paint yours whichever color scheme you have decided on and let them dry. My Thanksgiving color scheme this year is going to be teals, blues, white and mocha.

The next step is to grab the color of paint that you will be hand lettering with and your paintbrush. I highly recommend a pointed tip brush to make your life easier with this project - it will work so much better! All you need to do now is paint the words on your pumpkins. That's it.

A couple pointers on making this work for you:
- it does NOT have to be perfect. Paint it & move on.
- paint the word lightly first and then go back over it with additional paint to make it look better and brighter
- let the imperfections go . . . it gives it character!
- don't get caught up on "oh I have bad handwriting," as it it yours and that's special to all who will be there so just do it and enjoy!

I plan on putting these in the middle of my Thanksgiving table along with some other things for a simple 'handmade' centerpiece. You could let your kids do this and place them on the kids table or make these for everyone's place setting . . . there are so many ideas you can do.

So have you painted any words on pumpkins lately? Think maybe you ight try this idea? I would love to know, so leave me a comment below . . . :)

THANK YOU so much to DecoArt for providing me with the paint I used for this project. All opinions are strictly my own and I would never talk about or share anything on here that I wouldn't use & trust myself.
