CRAFT :: Emoji Coasters [IKEA Hack]

how to make emoji coasters, emoji party, emoji craft idea, painting emojis

Hey there everyone!
Guess what? I am back with my last EMOJI craft from that epic EMOJI party we had for my daughter's 13th birthday! As you know, I have shared all of the fun from the party including all the details, the party pack collection, decor ideas as well as separate posts about the EMOJI PILLOWS the girls made plus the EMOJI OREO POPS and the POO EMOJI BROWNIE BITES, I made, so make sure to check those out if you somehow missed them. ;)
It was such a great party theme and one that you could do so many creative things with that it was hard to narrow down which to try and craft. In the end, I think I ended up cutting out about three other ideas I wanted to do for her party but you know how it goes . . .so many ideas, not enough hours in the day right? ;)

Anyway, as you know I have a massive love affair with IKEA and am constantly there so when we saw these coasters, well . . . an idea was born! We love how they turned out and this could totally be a craft idea you could have the kids do during an emoji party if you wanted. We painted them ahead of time though and had it as part of their favor bags to take home.

The great thing about making these coasters is you can choose which of your favorite emoji faces to paint . . . the possibilities are endless!

So here they are, come see just how easy they are to make:
EMOJI COASTERS!

1. gather all of your supplies . . . you will need:
the two pack of IKEA coasters, a couple paint brushes and the colors of paint that you will be using - depending on which emoji faces you are painting.

2. for the emoji faces we chose, we first painted the inside and edges of the coaster with our yellow paint. Let it dry. Side note: they dried super fast!

3. we painted all of the black parts of the face next. Let dry.

4. the white details we painted on next and allowed to dry. Some of the designs, this was it and others we did a final step of color.

5. if you have chosen any of the emoji faces with some color, like this laughing face emoji, then you would paint the blue tears last.
I also painted the heart eyes emoji for the party and the red hearts were painted last too.

They are so simple but turn out so cute! All of the girls loved them and were using them all night at the party.

This is another perfect DIY craft for an emoji party or an emoji sleepover. This particular craft would be great for the younger kids to do as well- they will love making these.

DIY :: How to Make Emoji Pillows

DIY emoji pillows, emoji birthday party, emoji sleepover, emoji craft idea

Hello there!

As promised I am back with some more EMOJI FUN! As you know my daughter had an epic EMOJI party and then I shared about all of the fun details from the party but with the promise that I would share HOW we did some of those things. For years, I have always tried to come up with a 'cool' fun craft for the parties that my daughter has with her friends, and this year we decided to try our hand at making EMOJI PILLOWS.

I figured they wouldn't be that hard as I could buy the supplies, sew them up ahead of time and then come party time, the girls could decide what 'face' they wanted their pillow to have. It was sure to be a WIN-WIN right? YES, YES it was . . . the girls had a blast and giggling so hard making their emoji pillows . . . it was awesome to hear them all having a good time with this. Of course, they used their emoji pillows at their sleepover as well.

Could you just make your life easier and go buy a bunch of pillows at say . . . pretty much any of the stores right now?  . . . well yes, but by MAKING them, you get the fun experience of personalizing them to the emoji that they want and watching all of your daughter's friends have themselves some fun!

So here they are and here I am, ready to share how easy it can be to make:
EMOJI PILLOWS!

1. gather all of your supplies . . . you will need:
soft, high quality yellow felt (bought by the yard) I used about 2.5 yards to make eight pillows, various pre-cut colored felt to use for the emoji faces, scissors, a glue gun and/or fabric glue, yellow thread, sewing machine, pencil, stuffing, straight pins and a round 12 in plate or similar object to trace for the circle pattern.

supplies needed to make emoji pillows, felt, stuffing, glue gun

2. trace your circle shape using your plate onto the yellow felt, keeping the fabric folded so you get two circles with each trace/cut.

3. pin the two layers of felt together to ensure they stay the same when you cut and sew.

4. cut out both layers of the yellow felt

5. sew & stuff: using your sewing machine (if you choose), sew in a complete circle leaving about a 1/2 inch seam around the edge. Make sure to stop about two inches from closing, so you have a gap so you are able to fit the stuffing inside. Take your pillow and turn it inside out so the seams are on the INSIDE of the pillow now. Take your stuffing and fill it until you get the desired firmness for your pillow.

I am sure you could use fabric glue or a glue gun to 'sew' it together but since I can sew, that's what I did. ;)

6. decorate - using the various colored pre-cut felt you have, choose the emoji face you wish to create - sketch out the shapes on the felt and then cut them out and apply to your pillow using the glue gun or fabric glue.

7. hand sew the opening closed - we did this step last as some wanted more stuffing in their pillows and also this gives the girls a chance to hand sew their faces on easier - if they choose to reinforce them.

Aren't they just the cutest? The best part is the girls had an absolute blast making these and actually wanted to make more of them! lol

This is the perfect DIY craft for an emoji party or an emoji sleepover. I also believe this can be done with younger kids as well, just help supervise and you are all set.

What emoji face would YOU make for your pillow, given the chance? Please let me know below . . .

I love this season, when everyone is preparing for the holidays and planning all kinds of fun things to do with family and friends. One thing I really like to focus on this time of year is my family traditions and sharing experiences with my family to honor those things we hold dear to our hearts or a special memory of someone who is no longer around. My grandmother used to make this cake every chance she got and it wasn't too much chocolate but it was enough to make you crave it. It was made from Coca-Cola and man was it good. She would make it every year for the holidays and we would look forward to having it when we knew she was baking one up. So this year, when I attend my family's annual Christmas party with all of my cousins, aunts and uncles, I am bringing my grandmother with me. Well not technically, oh how I wish I could, as I miss her so, but I will take her cake and share it with my family so we can all remember Gaga. (her nickname)

I can't wait to see everyone's reaction as I told them what I was making was a surprise. I loved making it this year and sharing with my own daughter how much Gaga meant to me and how she would always make me this cake. I'd like to think I was her favorite since she was mine. ;) I believe there is something so magical about making a favorite recipe that means so much to so many. It just brings everyone a little slice of joy, even if for just that time it takes to eat that slice of cake.

This recipe is pretty easy to make and one of the nice things about it is you do NOT have to wait for it to cool before frosting because you need to frost it hot! Win-win on time spent making this creation! lol Like I said before, I am taking it to our family party as it's the perfect addition to any get together!

Here's how to make your own Coca-Cola CAKE!

Ingredients you will need: 24 Pack Coke de Mexico Coca-Cola, 2 cups of unsifted flour, 2 cups of sugar, 2 sticks of margarine, 3 tbsp. cocoa, 1 cup of Coca-Cola, 1/2 cup of buttermilk, 2 beaten eggs, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. vanilla and 2 cups of mini marshmallows

Step 1: combine flour, baking soda and sugar in mixing bowl.

Step 2: heat butter, cocoa and Coca-Cola to boiling and pour over flour, sugar mixture. Mix thoroughly.

Step 3: add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and marshmallows - beaten together and mix well. This will be a thin batter with the marshmallows floating on top.

Step 4: bake in flat 9x12 inch greased pan for 45-50 minutes at 350 degrees. Frost while hot.

Step 5: to make the icing: combine 1/2 cup butter, 2 tbsp. of cocoa and 6 tbsp. of Coca-Cola and heat to boiling. Add 1 box (16 oz.) of powdered sugar, then 1 cup of chopped pecans. Spread over hot cake.

Doesn't that look amazing! It is delish and you will love it if you like a cake that's not too heavy or real chocolate-y. I grabbed everything I needed to make this Coca-Cola cake, on my latest trip to Sam's Club. I just loved these 24 packs of glass Coca-Cola bottles and I knew I could use them for our craft and then also for the recipe. The Coke de Mexico Coca-Cola in glass bottles is made with real sugar so no worries about all of that high fructose corn syrup. YAY! While there, I also noticed that they had 4-packs of 2-liter Coke and Diet Coke, at a special price of $3.98 so I grabbed a Diet Coke to take to the party, along with my cake I made!

Now let's get our craft on and whip up some of these adorable Coca-Cola bottle SNOWMEN! Sharing the joy of the season has never been cuter with these snowman bottles we are gifting to teachers, friends and family! I love how these guys (and girls) turned out and can't wait to see what everyone thinks of them! I think anyone that receives one is going to LOVE it! ;)

Step 4: cut out the cupcake liners to create the skirt for the snow women and tape in the back. I did two layers for the skirts to make it a little more girly. I even tried just putting the 'skirts' on with the bottles not painted and still looks so cute right? ;)
