I am so excited about my latest craft project that I am sharing with you today! Check out this Glam Headband Holder . . . pretty chic huh? Now you may be wondering how I decided on this kind of project, because it DOES use a foam head! Well recently I was asked by FloraCraft® to participate in their Foam Head Creative Blogger Blitz and they sent a box of foam heads plus some of this blingy Diamond Wrap and I was to come up with something creative! As soon as I opened the box and saw these foam heads staring back at me, my first reaction was to do something with a Halloween theme BUT the more I thought on it, I wanted the challenge of coming up with something useful and fun.
As you know I am putting the finishing touches on my daughter's tween room and then it hit me! Why not create something kinda glam but still fun. Something practical yet chic. So I give you . . .the Glam Headband Holder!
You will need a few supplies before you get started.
- FloraCraft® foam head(s) (which can be found at JoAnn stores or Michaels)
- FloraCraft Design It:® Simple Style Diamond Wrap (Silver, Fuchsia or Turquoise)
- your choice of paint colors
- paint brushes
- glue sticks/ glue gun
- scissors
- your choice of a base for your 'head'
I will tell you that while I was doing this project, I changed my mind about three times of how the finished product would look. Does anyone else do that? I decide to add another head and try two different ideas, so my daughter could have options when using this! ;)
Step 1:
- paint the head in the color that you chose and allow to dry in between coats
I gave these three coats of paint to ensure their durablilty!
Step 2:
In an attempt to try & take away from the "alien-look" factor (lol), I grabbed a silver Sharpie and add a definitive eye line with a few lashes and then also added some eye brows.
Step 3:
Grab the diamond wrap and measure around the neck to determine the length to cut for her bling choker necklace! Once you decide on the length, cut it out in the length and height you like and hot glue around the neck.
Step 4:
Next we are going to give her some lips! Using the diamond wrap again, determine the shape of the lip, cut out and hot glue on.
Step 5:
The final step is deciding on a base for the head. For the teal one, we used this fun plate as the base so my daughter could use it on her nightstand for placing her necklaces, hair clips and headbands on. As far as how to attach it to the plate, simply hot glue it on or just set it on there - the choice is yours.
Here are some ideas you can do using the two heads together or just one by itself. As you can see, the pink one I just set on a covered box base and you could simply place hair accessories and jewelry next to it. Or you could do something where you can have two sitting together so you have more of an 'artsy' vibe with these and maybe use them by themselves.
This can be fun discovering different options but the one thing it does is solve the question of: 'which headband do I wear with my outfit tomorrow' for my daughter. She simply chooses and places it on the head so she is ready to go!
