{PREVENTION is KEY} Breast Cancer Awareness

     

Howdie all – It’s Melissa, from My Party Passion, returning again this month to bring you a special post.  As I would rather be guest blogging about Halloween and Harvest parties, I am blogging about the “other” topic that is on our minds for October. 

In 2012, it is estimated that there will be over 250,000 cases of breast cancer in women in the United States alone.  It is also estimated that close to 40,000 of these women will die of breast cancer.  In men there will be over 2,000 new cases in 2012 and over 400 of those men diagnosed will die. 

I have one word for you today – PREVENTION!    
PREVENTION is the KEY!   

If you do nothing else this year for YOURSELF, I beg of you to get your annual checkups and mamagrams (check with your doctor to see what tests would be right for you). Self-exams are just as important for early detection.

I give myself a birthday present each year and schedule my mammogram for my birthday.  It’s a day where I spend to myself.  It’s a day when I can proudly say I think of ME and ME alone.  It’s not selfish – it’s the opposite!   I will do everything in my power to see my children grow up and grow old.  I know that someday my daughters will be alive to see the CURE for this disease.  For now, I will educate them on ways to prevent getting it!

On behalf of Team Eye Candy – I repeat that word – PREVENTION!

{Halloween CRAFT Tip} DIY Spider Ring Machine

     

DIY spider ring ‘machine’

Hey everyone!! It’s me, Staci from lizard & ladybug.

 I wanted to make a Halloween gumball machine

but I didn’t want it to be a ‘traditional’ gum or candy machine.

Grab these supplies:

(not pictured, glass bowl/vase from Dollar Tree and 1” wooden knob – from JoAnns)

 and some of this

Spray paint it all. Once the clay pots/saucer and knob are dry, turn the clay pot upside down and attach the bowl.

Attach the knob to the bottom of the saucer

After everything is completely dry, add ribbon {I wanted to keep it simple}

And to make it SPOOK-tacular…..

Add spiders :)

How great would this look on a kid’s Halloween table???

DIY :: How To Make Marshmallow Chalk

Hopefully you all have had the chance to check out my latest collection: the "CREATE" collection. If not make sure to check it out for my idea on how to create an Art Party Picnic using the collection.



I promised MORE info from the Art Party Picnic on the marshmallow "chalk" that you see pictured here, so here we go. When I decided what the theme would be, I knew I wanted to incorporate some fun food "art" into the party. I decided on marshmallow "chalk" as I knew it HAD to be easy & quick. Plus since the kids were going to be using chalk to draw during the Art Party, I thought this would be a FAB idea!

 

So how do you make this crazy box of "chalk"? This was one of those projects that I thought would take LESS time than it actually did but that's ok. You never come up with something great (or not) until you give it a try!

I basically just used a bag of mini marshmallows & some water. Yup, I said water. I divided the marshmallows by color & then dipped an end into a small bowl of water to get it to stick to the next. Was this the best method of doing this? Probably not, but I figured when marshmallows get wet, they get sticky so I thought I had something. Not sure if I made it too hard on myself or not - lol. It does take a few seconds of holding it in place for them to start "sticking together" but I eventually got there. (sorry I didn't take pics of the step-by-step but it's pretty easy)

I think now after-the-fact, that it may have been MUCH quicker & easier to "adhere" them together with a drop of CandiQuik since it's used as the 'glue' on so many other baking items.

Never-the-less, we had marshmallow "chalk" & the kids thought it was great! It's all about making sure the kids are having fun - right? ;)

Overall I would do it again. I thought it turned out pretty cute!
