CRAFT :: Easy Picnic Utensils Holder with P&Geveryday

fun idea for picnic, washi tape, paper lunch bag, utensil holder, craft DIY

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Summertime is one of my favorite times of year but it's not because of the great weather being the reason. The reason I love it is simple. My daughter is home all summer and we can plan fun things to do that you can only have fun doing during summer break. You know those 'making memories' kind of things.

We plan a summer bucket list every year and she fills it up the first week of break and we look forward to finding creative ways to tackle the things on her bucket list. One of the things she has on her list is to have a family picnic that includes taking our dog with us. This is our dog's first summer with us so yes, he goes too. This is Chili. He says hello! ;)

I have been looking for fun creative ideas for summer, for the last month, on various sites when I stumbled upon a site new to me: P&Geveryday. I found all sorts of articles that shared ideas on various topics I was looking for. They are committed to making every day just a little easier by providing a site that aims to inspire, support and empower you to unlock your potential. The articles are not too long and offer a lot of fabulous tips on just everyday topics and I found it very helpful.

Since I am specifically planning a picnic with the family + dog soon, I was super excited when I came across this adorable and easy craft idea for a picnic: Easy Picnic Utensil Holders. Now just how cute are these?

So cute in fact, that I decided to gather the materials right away, after reading this article because I wanted to see just how easy they would be to make. So with supplies in hand and washi tape design chosen, I was ready to get my craft on!

They were so easy to make, that I have already made mine for when we have our picnic in the upcoming week. One less thing to do for the picnic outing thanks to P&Geveryday. ;) Didn't they turn out adorable? I just followed the instructions from the article on their site and done! I love how resourceful their ideas can be to make my life easier.

You never know what you will find that inspires you to grab your supplies and get your craft on! I could spend quite a bit of time on there as the have amazing articles!

FREEBIE - Get Up Get Active :: 14 Days To Slim

Slimtime is here,  . . . no I mean summertime is here. No wait, I DO mean slim-time! ;) It's that time!. It's time for me and my family to "get up & get active" this summer. It's time to start. NOW! Time to make a plan and put that plan in action, NOW! One of the reasons I am sharing this here with you is sooooo many people are talking about what they are doing that I know and I wanted to get in on the action too and share what we are doing as well, plus it keeps me accountable right? ;)

slimtime, get in shape, active lifestyle, healthy eating, healthy snack idea

When you are trying to lose weight, it shouldn't feel like a chore. It should be fun. It should be exciting. But let's face it, what's exciting and fun about trying to lose weight? First of all I think we need to change our "terminology" and quit saying "lose weight" and replace it with "getting healthy" because we want this to last for a lifetime, not just a minute right?

Well it's a state of mind I tell ya. It's all in the way we see ourselves and what trying to get healthy means to each of us. I'll be honest, . . . ALL, well 75% of my life, has been a battle of trying to stay fit. I've seen that scale go up and down so many times, I don't even bother with it anymore. It's collecting dust in my bathroom as I'm just relying on how I feel. I have so many clothes I am just "hanging onto just in case" that I could open my own clothing store. I am THAT person who hates getting their picture taken because I don't like the way I look. Does any of this resonate with you? A little? A LOT!!??!! Hopefully I am not alone. ;)

I say enough already! I just had a birthday about a week and a half ago and EVERY year, I mean E-V-E-R-Y year I say to myself, . . ."well didn't lose it all for this birthday, oh well, I'll shoot for next year". Uggghhh who does this? I do, but I can't. I can't do this anymore. THIS is REALLY the year. But I have decided to cut myself a break and make it easier. Not because I don't want a lofty goal to shoot for but because I am choosing to be happy with losing 20 pounds instead of ya know, saying "I need to lose 75 pounds" because let's face it, losing 20 sounds really good too about now. Imagine the new clothes from the closet I could wear! (sigh)

What if we looked at it, in the sense of a celebration? . . . A party persay. Don't look at it as something that is gonna be a chore, look at it as a celebration. You are celebrating YOU! I am going to celebrate ME, and celebrate every day, one day at a time, making myself a better ME and taking the time to do it right. My family is joining me because they are great supporters plus they want to "get up & get active" with me too.

I have tried so many things to get healthy and some have worked and some have been a bust. For me, eating about 3 smaller meals a day works best for my metabolism along with 3 healthy snacks in between, making my eating about every 2-3 hours, so my issue is always finding good quality items to eat to switch it up and not get burnt out on the same thing.

So I am so excited that I discovered these new Slimfast® protein bars as I have used their products in the past and had great results with them, so I thought, let's try them again. Then I saw this flavor they had . . . "Have your Cake . . .Vanilla"! Really? Wasn't I just talking about treating this "get healthy" thing like a celebration? And what better way to celebrate anything than with CAKE! ;) . . . as in "have your CAKE".

slimfast bars, have your cake, celebrate, birthdays, getting fit

So here's what I am thinking . . . the plan of action to get 'er done!

To kick start my weight loss and try to lose up to 6 pounds in the first 2 weeks, I will make the Slimfast® 14-Day Slimdown part of my healthy regimen.
  • I will swap two meals daily with a one of these delish Slimfast® protein bars since it does taste like cake (more like cake batter actually) YUM!
  • I will make sure my third meal is 500 calories
  • I will definitely enjoy three 100-calorie snacks or fresh fruit every day
  • I will watch my calories and not exceed 1200 per day
  • I will plan on doing 30 minutes of light to medium exercise daily (and downloading this "Get Up & Get Active" tracker will help)
  • Drink p-l-e-n-t-y of water

Remember, make this journey fun and celebrate!! I did the other day, as we planned a little picnic and focused on fun activities we could do as a family this summer to stay active plus we can keep track on our sheet so we know how much we are staying active. Here's what I am planning on my days looking like:

getting fit, stay active, strawberries, water, picnic fun, fitness tracker

. . . fresh fruit, Slimfast® protein bars as a meal replacement and LOTS of water to keep me on track!

An easy way to get your family involved is to make a list of activities you like to do and use these as your "Get up & Get Active" minutes of doing some exercise! Make this summer about staying fit as a family. We thought of fun summertime ideas we are going to do: walking the dog, kicking a ball back & forth with our kids, playing frisbee in the park, passing a football, riding our bikes . . .ideas that are fun without feeling like we're 'exercising'.

Staying active is key in the summer months, especially with the kids home for summer. To help you with this, I designed this "Get Up & Get Active" tracking sheet that can be downloaded so you can keep track of your physical activity so you can see where you are at and maybe you do more than you realize already and maybe not. But the important thing is keeping track to get a grip on this new way of doing things. ;)

CRAFT :: How to make CHALKBOARDS

art party chalkboards, how to make a chalkboard, kids art party, chalk

Today I am sharing with you, "How To Make" the Chalkboards that we had as party favors for the Art Party Picnic. I hope you have all had a chance to check out all the details from that awesome good time but if not, make sure to go over & see all the 'eye candy'. The kids used these to draw on before we had our picnic snacks & then, they were able to take them home with them. So soooo FUN!

art party picnic chalkboards, how to make a homemade chalkboard
supplies needed to make a chalkboard, foam board, chalk paint, duck tape

These chalkboards are one of the easiest favors to make & much more fun than buying them, especially because you can choose the size you want these to be!

SUPPLIES:
~ foam board (I bought 2 & just pick the size you want, as I just picked the largest board & cut in 1/2 to create 4 chalkboards total)
~ chalkboard paint
~ duck tape (color of your choice - I chose neon green & pink to match the party)
~ utility knife
~ paint brush

1. cut the foam board into the size "chalkboards" you would like
2. paint one side with chalkboard paint & let dry
3. 'finish' the edges off with the colored duck tape
4. 'season' the boards by taking a piece of chalk, turn it on it's side & rub it over the entire board - erase & it's ready to go!

Want to learn How-To Make Marshmallow Chalk? This was a HUGE hit with the kids as they thought it was a hoot to get to eat their box of "chalk".

DIY :: How To Make Marshmallow Chalk

recipe for edible chalk, marshmallow chalk, art party food, art party picnic

Hopefully you all have had the chance to check out my latest collection: the "CREATE" collection. If not make sure to check it out for my idea on how to create an Art Party Picnic using the collection.

I promised MORE info from the Art Party Picnic on the marshmallow "chalk" that you see pictured here, so here we go. When I decided what the theme would be, I knew I wanted to incorporate some fun food "art" into the party. I decided on marshmallow "chalk" as I knew it HAD to be easy & quick. Plus since the kids were going to be using chalk to draw during the Art Party, I thought this would be a FAB idea!

So how do you make this crazy box of "chalk"? This was one of those projects that I thought would take LESS time than it actually did but that's ok. You never come up with something great (or not) until you give it a try!

I basically just used a bag of mini marshmallows & some water. Yup, I said water. I divided the marshmallows by color & then dipped an end into a small bowl of water to get it to stick to the next. Was this the best method of doing this? Probably not, but I figured when marshmallows get wet, they get sticky so I thought I had something. Not sure if I made it too hard on myself or not - lol. It does take a few seconds of holding it in place for them to start "sticking together" but I eventually got there. (sorry I didn't take pics of the step-by-step but it's pretty easy)

I think now after-the-fact, that it may have been MUCH quicker & easier to "adhere" them together with a drop of CandiQuik since it's used as the 'glue' on so many other baking items.

Never-the-less, we had marshmallow "chalk" & the kids thought it was great! It's all about making sure the kids are having fun - right? ;)

Overall I would do it again. I thought it turned out pretty cute!
