Slimtime is here, . . . no I mean summertime is here. No wait, I DO mean slim-time! ;) It's that time!. It's time for me and my family to "get up & get active" this summer. It's time to start. NOW! Time to make a plan and put that plan in action, NOW! One of the reasons I am sharing this here with you is sooooo many people are talking about what they are doing that I know and I wanted to get in on the action too and share what we are doing as well, plus it keeps me accountable right? ;)
When you are trying to lose weight, it shouldn't feel like a chore. It should be fun. It should be exciting. But let's face it, what's exciting and fun about trying to lose weight? First of all I think we need to change our "terminology" and quit saying "lose weight" and replace it with "getting healthy" because we want this to last for a lifetime, not just a minute right?
Well it's a state of mind I tell ya. It's all in the way we see ourselves and what trying to get healthy means to each of us. I'll be honest, . . . ALL, well 75% of my life, has been a battle of trying to stay fit. I've seen that scale go up and down so many times, I don't even bother with it anymore. It's collecting dust in my bathroom as I'm just relying on how I feel. I have so many clothes I am just "hanging onto just in case" that I could open my own clothing store. I am THAT person who hates getting their picture taken because I don't like the way I look. Does any of this resonate with you? A little? A LOT!!??!! Hopefully I am not alone. ;)
I say enough already! I just had a birthday about a week and a half ago and EVERY year, I mean E-V-E-R-Y year I say to myself, . . ."well didn't lose it all for this birthday, oh well, I'll shoot for next year". Uggghhh who does this? I do, but I can't. I can't do this anymore. THIS is REALLY the year. But I have decided to cut myself a break and make it easier. Not because I don't want a lofty goal to shoot for but because I am choosing to be happy with losing 20 pounds instead of ya know, saying "I need to lose 75 pounds" because let's face it, losing 20 sounds really good too about now. Imagine the new clothes from the closet I could wear! (sigh)
What if we looked at it, in the sense of a celebration? . . . A party persay. Don't look at it as something that is gonna be a chore, look at it as a celebration. You are celebrating YOU! I am going to celebrate ME, and celebrate every day, one day at a time, making myself a better ME and taking the time to do it right. My family is joining me because they are great supporters plus they want to "get up & get active" with me too.
I have tried so many things to get healthy and some have worked and some have been a bust. For me, eating about 3 smaller meals a day works best for my metabolism along with 3 healthy snacks in between, making my eating about every 2-3 hours, so my issue is always finding good quality items to eat to switch it up and not get burnt out on the same thing.
So I am so excited that I discovered these new Slimfast® protein bars as I have used their products in the past and had great results with them, so I thought, let's try them again. Then I saw this flavor they had . . . "Have your Cake . . .Vanilla"! Really? Wasn't I just talking about treating this "get healthy" thing like a celebration? And what better way to celebrate anything than with CAKE! ;) . . . as in "have your CAKE".
So here's what I am thinking . . . the plan of action to get 'er done!
To kick start my weight loss and try to lose up to 6 pounds in the first 2 weeks, I will make the Slimfast® 14-Day Slimdown part of my healthy regimen.
- I will swap two meals daily with a one of these delish Slimfast® protein bars since it does taste like cake (more like cake batter actually) YUM!
- I will make sure my third meal is 500 calories
- I will definitely enjoy three 100-calorie snacks or fresh fruit every day
- I will watch my calories and not exceed 1200 per day
- I will plan on doing 30 minutes of light to medium exercise daily (and downloading this "Get Up & Get Active" tracker will help)
- Drink p-l-e-n-t-y of water
Remember, make this journey fun and celebrate!! I did the other day, as we planned a little picnic and focused on fun activities we could do as a family this summer to stay active plus we can keep track on our sheet so we know how much we are staying active. Here's what I am planning on my days looking like:
An easy way to get your family involved is to make a list of activities you like to do and use these as your "Get up & Get Active" minutes of doing some exercise! Make this summer about staying fit as a family. We thought of fun summertime ideas we are going to do:
walking the dog, kicking a ball back & forth with our kids, playing frisbee
in the park, passing a football, riding our bikes . . .ideas that are fun without
feeling like we're 'exercising'.
Staying active
is key in the summer months, especially with the kids home for summer. To help you with this, I designed this "Get Up & Get Active" tracking sheet that can be downloaded so you can keep track of your physical activity so you can see where you are at and maybe you do more than you realize already and maybe not. But the important thing is keeping track to get a grip on this new way of doing things. ;)

ReplyDeleteAhhhh I love biking - we just all got new bikes last year but barley had a chance to ride them so we will be doing a lot of that. Good luck to you too. ;)
DeleteAwesome printable! Writing it down really helps to monitor your progress. Those birthday cake bars look SO good!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Chery and yes I agree, writing down what we eat is a good tip as well but one I find is hard to remember but maybe will be easier since I am tracking activity. ;) The birthday bars ARE good - promise!
DeleteYou rock! I have been getting my walking in, but I missed the last 3 days because of rain. I did the steps on one of those days. This exercise tracker is THE best idea ever. I am printing it out and putting it on my bedroom door where I can be accountable. I had no idea slimfast had such good products now!
ReplyDeleteGood for you Elizabeth for already being on "the move" - sounds like you have a routine down and so glad to hear this tracker will help. I think by looking at this is 14 day increments INSTEAD of months & months is waaaaay more motivating right? ;) And yes Slimfast's products are so much better than they used to be, I actually picked up some of their shakes at the store today too as I wanted to try & I recommend those too. ;) Good luck & enjoy!
DeleteAwesome - love this cute printable! With warm weather finally here, I'm working at being more fit. Glad we're all in it together!

DeleteBeing a woman, we are always doing for everyone else...so this is for me...my time, doing whatever moves me for that day. Anything outdoors, walking, biking, mowing, gardening, whatever. But a sweet snack at the end is the best, always need a reward, and no guilt with this slimfast bar, awesome!!! And the printable will give me a visual to see all i can do! Excellent Laura and thank you !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet comment. Sounds like you are quite active already but glad this will make it more enjoyable to keep up with. =)
